he Airbus H145 has long been a cornerstone in vertical lift operations, serving missions from search and rescue to law enforcement and military applications. Now, Airbus is expanding its capabilities to meet the growing demands of armed forces and civil operators facing crises ranging from natural disasters to hybrid warfare scenarios.

“The H145 has proven itself as a reliable and versatile aircraft,” says Daniela Dudek, Head of the H145 Programme at Airbus. “Its performance in hot and high environments, rapid reconfiguration options, and availability make it indispensable for operators facing time-critical missions. Our goal is to maintain this strong foundation while enhancing mission capabilities in connectivity, interoperability, militarisation and rescue operations.”

The platform’s military variant, the H145M, is increasingly in demand as defence budgets rise across Europe and beyond. The recent Bundeswehr order for up to 82 H145M light attack helicopters (LKH) underscores this trend. Designed for training, reconnaissance, special forces support and light attack roles, the H145M benefits from technology transfer between civil and military markets. Innovations developed for law enforcement, such as advanced avionics and mission systems, are now being adapted for defence applications.

With hybrid warfare shaping modern military requirements, Airbus is also developing interoperability with uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) to expand operational flexibility. “These enhancements ensure the H145M can adapt quickly to new mission profiles while maintaining its proven reliability,” notes Dudek.

Airbus is now focusing on accelerating production to meet rising global demand. “We must maintain the rapid pace of civil serial production while expanding into the military market,” Dudek adds.

As governments and agencies seek adaptable solutions for both defence and disaster-response operations, the H145’s combination of operational readiness, multi-role flexibility and continuous innovation positions it as a leading platform for the next decade.
