AT&S AG continues its growth trajectory into the new year without slowing down. In view of a persistently strong order situation and numerous major projects won in recent months, the company is making massive investments in the infrastructure at the Leoben site. After the state-of-the-art competence center for R&D and IC substrates was successfully commissioned in summer 2025, AT&S is launching the next phase of its site offensive: With an investment volume in the mid single-digit million range, capacities at the existing printed circuit board plants are being comprehensively expanded and modernized.

AT&S on the upswing

“After one and a half challenging years, things are looking up again,” says Michael Mertin, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of AT&S. “The driver is artificial intelligence. That is why, especially when the global economy is facing challenges, it is crucial to invest boldly in one’s own substance.” He adds: “Our decision to consistently expand production in Leoben-Hinterberg is a clear commitment to quality and a strategic step to safeguard our technological sovereignty as well as our ability to deliver to customers in the long term.”

Cleanroom space to be tripled

The facts about the conversion: At the main plant in Leoben, the cleanroom space that is crucial for high-tech manufacturing will be tripled, from 760 to 2,300 square meters (approx. 8,180 to 25,000 sq ft). Because the new cleanroom extends over two floors, the elevator system and stairwell will also be built using cleanroom technology. In addition, the cleanroom quality will be upgraded by one class to ISO 6. Office, warehouse, and logistics areas will also be converted. The expansion is scheduled to be completed by summer 2026. “The conversion includes state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and optimized logistics processes that will take the site to the next technological level,” says Barbara Decker-Schlögl. As Senior Director Operations and the new Site Manager, all threads come together under her responsibility. “We are significantly increasing our capacities. We owe this expansion to a persistently strong order situation for embedding specialty products, and it is a huge vote of confidence in the competence of our team.”

CEO Mertin also points to the expansion of personnel in manufacturing. “In the fall, we advertised 150 new jobs in Leoben, and the response was fantastic. With our IC substrates as essential components for new cloud and AI applications and our legendary expertise in highly advanced printed circuit boards, AT&S is excellently positioned globally and here in Austria.”
