As part of a major push to strengthen operational mobility and readiness, Germany’s Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply more than 1,000 military logistic vehicles in a deal valued at approximately €770 million gross. The order includes 963 vehicles equipped with swap-body systems — some featuring protected driver cabins — along with modular flatbeds and tarpaulin-arch superstructures. In addition, the Bundeswehr has requested 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTVs) in both 4x4 and 8x8 variants.

As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, we are delighted to be delivering additional vehicles and thus contributing to the mobility and operational readiness of the armed forces.

Most extensive logistics vehicle contract in the company’s history

The roughly 1,400 vehicles are scheduled for delivery by the end of this year. The orders have been officially recorded for the third quarter of 2025. These latest UTVs are part of a larger framework agreement signed in July 2024 — the most extensive logistics vehicle contract in the company’s history. The contract allows for the delivery of up to 6,500 vehicles with a total gross value of €3.5 billion over seven years. It enables the Bundeswehr to flexibly procure additional quantities of the in-service UTV 5t and 15t models, and introduces the new 4x4 UTV 3.5t variant, which shares maximum parts commonality with the UTV vehicle family.Since their initial commissioning in 2017, the UTV family has played a key role in enhancing the Bundeswehr’s logistics capabilities. That year marked the launch of the “UTV mil gl” platform in 5t and 15t payload categories.

To date, more than 7,000 vehicles from Rheinmetall’s HX series — including swap-body trucks and 70-tonne semi-trailer tractors — have been delivered to the German armed forces. Both the UTV and WLS systems are based on the HX vehicle family, developed by Rheinmetall for military applications. These vehicles offer outstanding off-road mobility and rugged durability, making them well-suited for modern military logistics.

Globally, the HX platform is recognized for its interoperability benefits, especially in multinational operations. Besides Germany, users include the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, Slovenia, Denmark, and Ukraine.

With over 20,000 units in service worldwide, the HX family has earned a reputation for reliability and strategic adaptability. This latest order further reinforces the Bundeswehr’s commitment to modernizing its logistics fleet and highlights Rheinmetall’s role as a central player in Europe’s defense industry. kib
