Drone attacks as part of the escalation in the Middle East have directly hit and damaged two AWS data centers in the United Arab Emirates, reports dpa. According to the company, a facility in Bahrain was also affected by an impact in the immediate vicinity. The attacks caused structural damage and disruption to the power supply, AWS added. Firefighting operations were also carried out, causing additional water damage. The company is now working with local authorities and prioritising the safety of its employees.

Middle East conflict makes AWS environment unsafe

AWS had initially spoken in general terms of objects that had hit a data center and caused sparks and fire. The company later confirmed that these were drone attacks. The outages were related to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Customers of the cloud division reported increased error rates and limited availability of central services. According to AWS, it will take at least one day to repair the power supply and connectivity. AWS advised customers to back up data and move applications to other AWS regions if necessary. Unfortunately, the environment remains unpredictable in light of the conflict.
