The defence company Rheinmetall has received another major order as part of Europe's rearmament efforts, reports the dpa. Approximately three billion euros (approx. 3.5 billion USD) will be spent on the delivery of 222 wheeled infantry fighting vehicles of the "Schakal" type for the German and Dutch armed forces. The Schakal is, incidentally, a system combination of the chassis of the Boxer wheeled armored vehicle and the turret of the Puma tracked infantry fighting vehicle.

Optionally, there could be significantly more Schakals

The total order value for the joint venture Artec, comprising Rheinmetall and the French-German tank manufacturer KNDS, is expected to reach around 3.4 billion euros (approx. 4 billion USD). The contract also includes a logistics package for spare parts, training materials, and special tools. The Bundeswehr will receive 150 vehicles. Additionally, as emphasized by Rheinmetall, an option exists for the delivery of another 248 Schakals. Following this news, Rheinmetall's stock naturally saw a significant increase. According to Rheinmetall, Artec is also likely to secure orders for the construction of the RCH 155 wheeled howitzer.
