Heckler & Koch spent ten years deep in the red with no hope of improvement. But now the situation has changed completely, as the order books are full ...

The arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch has recently received significantly more orders for the delivery of small arms, according to reports. According to the Oberndorf-based arms manufacturer, known for assault rifles such as the time-honored G3 and the later G36, for submachine guns such as the MP5 and MP7 or for MG4 and MG5 machine guns, incoming orders in the first half of the year therefore rose by 42.8 percent to a volume of 282.5 million euros. However, such orders for the military and police (such as the P30 and SFP9 pistols) usually take several years and it also takes a while before the first delivery is made. Nevertheless, turnover rose by 4.7 percent to 179.5 million euros in the first half of the year. The operating result (EBITDA) fell by 1.1 percent to 29.5 million euros.

The Bundeswehr remains the most important customer

The poorer profitability is explained, among other things, by relatively high expenditure on materials and an increase in stock, which means that production can start relatively quickly after an order is placed. However, the management was satisfied with the half-year figures and saw them as confirmation of a strong market position. The significant increase in incoming orders makes it clear that armed forces in Germany, Europe and within the transatlantic alliance rely on Heckler & Koch products. The most important customer was and is the German armed forces, which H&K will gradually supply with a total of 120,000 assault rifles in the coming years. With the new weapon, the G95, which is to become the new assault rifle as the G95A1, the troops want to replace the former G3 successor, the G36, in the near future. The first batch of series production is to be handed over this year.
