Just over a year ago, Rheinmetall and Leonardo announced the establishment of the joint venture. Each holds 50 percent of the shares. The aim is to create a new heavyweight in European tank construction. And at the beginning of the year, the German Federal Cartel Office gave the green light for the establishment of the company, which is based in Rome. The new joint venture between Rheinmetall, Germany's largest arms manufacturer, and Leonardo has now landed its first order to supply armored vehicles. According to a press release, Italy's army has ordered 21 tracked vehicles from Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles as part of the Armored Army Combat System (A2CS) program.

The 21 tanks are divided into five Lynx KF-41s with Rheinmetall's Lance turret and 16 vehicles in a new configuration with the same chassis, but with the Hitfist 30-millimeter turret gun from Leonardo. The first vehicle is to be delivered by the end of the year. The order is an important milestone for the company management.
