Kontron, a global leader in IoT/Embedded Computer Technology (ECT), announces the availability of the mission system HARAKAN-F2-2. The new defence platform from Kontron integrates the latest generation of Intel Xeon-D processors and delivers VPX server-level performance as well as reliability and scalability for the most demanding defence applications. These include AI, sensor fusion, cyber-secure tactical gateways and real-time analytics. Kontron will present HARAKAN from 10 to 12 March at Embedded World 2026 in Nuremberg (Germany).

HARAKAN-F2-2 is developed and manufactured in Europe, with full control over design, production and long-term support at a single location. The system benefits from a controlled and transparent supply chain, strong configuration management and long-term programme continuity. The system is ITAR- and BAFA-free, enabling greater flexibility for deployment in international defence programmes.

HARAKAN-F2-2 is based on a modular architecture with integrated VPX building blocks that comply with the technical SOSA Consortium standard. This allows system integrators to develop VPX-based defence applications more quickly and with reduced risk.

As defence budgets rise and EU programmes expand, civil technology providers are becoming vital contributors to Europe’s strategic autonomy. The event will act as a neutral platform for dialogue between technology suppliers, integrators, and decision-makers shaping the next generation of European defence capabilities and aims to open doors between civil industry and defence procurement, providing practical insights.

Sébastien Vitre, Product Manager for Rugged Systems at Kontron, says: “With this latest HARAKAN variant, defence system integrators can securely and reliably run multiple mission-critical applications at the edge—even under the harshest environmental conditions. The platform combines high computing power with flexible configuration options that can quickly adapt to changing mission requirements—from tactical edge processing to complex, virtualised sensor fusion environments. At the same time, upgrade paths can be maintained throughout the entire programme lifecycle. Additional configurations, including GPU variants, are already under development. In this way, the HARAKAN family is expanding into a complete portfolio for edge AI, multi-sensor fusion and accelerated analytics.”

The SWaP-optimised VPX form factor includes two 3U-VPX slots, enabling processor, network and I/O capabilities to be adapted to changing mission requirements. Integrated features such as Hardware Root of Trust, Secure Boot and system monitoring tools ensure mission integrity from power-on to operational deployment.

Kontron HARAKAN-F2-2 is available immediately and offers a minimum product lifecycle of ten years. In addition, services are available that inform users about major changes to monitored frozen configurations. Production can also be ensured beyond the end-of-life date. Warranty extensions of up to five years are also available.
