With the particularly lightweight combination of "Onsert" fastening elements from Böllhoff and the light-curing high-performance adhesive "Photobend FB4151" from Delo, cables, for example, can be fastened particularly gently and in compliance with the required flame protection in the interior of aircraft.

Böllhoff and Delo are pooling their expertise and adapting proven fastening technologies for the aviation industry. The combination of Böllhoff's fastening element and Delo's adhesive proves to be an efficient alternative to conventional screw or rivet connections. It is ideal as a cable holder on lightweight components, for example. Short curing times and easy automation support highly scalable production processes in the aviation industry.

Aviation requirements fulfilled

The "Photobend FB4151" adhesive is a modified acrylate that cures with UV light. It was specially developed for use in aircraft interiors. The adhesive cures within a few seconds and achieves a strength of around 20 MPa on various plastics and metals commonly used in aviation. In addition, the adhesive has 80 percent elongation at break and is therefore flexible for movements in surrounding components. The adhesive manufacturer recommends using the adhesive at temperatures between -40 °C and +120 °C.

With its fire and smoke behavior, the adhesive meets the aviation requirements according to FAR Part 25 § 25.853 (a)(1)(i) Amdt. 15/Amdt. 25-116 and ABD0031. It is also low outgassing, solvent-free and complies with Directive 2015/863/EU (RoHS).

As defence budgets rise and EU programmes expand, civil technology providers are becoming vital contributors to Europe’s strategic autonomy. The event will act as a neutral platform for dialogue between technology suppliers, integrators, and decision-makers shaping the next generation of European defence capabilities and aims to open doors between civil industry and defence procurement, providing practical insights.

Fasten without damage

Böllhoff fasteners combine bonding and mechanical securing in one technology. Transparent plastic elements are bonded directly to lightweight construction materials using the light-curing adhesive from Delo. This avoids time-consuming drilling that damages the carrier material and other components. This is particularly advantageous for composite materials. It also ensures design freedom, as the fasteners can be attached without having to consider other elements and geometries of the carrier components. Once the adhesive has been exposed, functional elements such as cable holders can simply be clipped on. With a curing time of only around 8 seconds and the option of automated assembly, the fastening system is ideal for series production.

Franz Drüke, Product Manager at Böllhoff, summarises the advantages: "The combination of our fastening elements and the adhesive from Delo creates a high-performance connection technology for aircraft interiors - lightweight, reliable and ideal for series production."Sebastian Stasch, Product Manager Industrial Solutions at the adhesive manufacturer, adds: "Our light-curing adhesives have been successfully established in the automotive industry for years. Now they also enable efficient production processes with short cycle times and a high degree of design freedom in the aviation industry."

Air travel as an experience

The Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) and World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) will open in Hamburg from April 14-16, 2026, showcasing products and services from global companies in the cabin interiors and in-flight services industries. As the largest annual gathering of global airlines and suppliers - with more than 200 commercial airlines and over 800 exhibitors at both events - attending both AIX and WTCE is the best opportunity to connect with the entire passenger experience ecosystem. With just one badge, trade visitors gain access to both shows. With thousands of products on display, AIX 2026 is the world's most comprehensive showcase of interior innovations. It will showcase innovations that will shape the interiors of private jets and commercial passenger aircraft in the future.

The Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) will take place in Halls B1-B7 and the World Travel Catering & Onboard Services Expo (WTCE) in Halls A1, A2 and A4 at Hamburg Messe from April 14 to 16, 2026. On April 13, international executives from the industry will meet at the Passenger Experience Conference (PEC).
