RENK Group AG, a global leader in propulsion solutions for both defence and civilian applications, has received an order to supply twelve NDSL-3600 double ship gearboxes. The first units will be delivered to Kongsberg Maritime Sweden AB in the fourth quarter of 2026. The gearboxes will be installed in six RoPax ferries for a major international shipping company.“With more than 500 TI/SO gearbox systems delivered worldwide, RENK has established itself as a leading supplier in the maritime industry,” said Dr. Georg von Witzleben, CEO Marine & Industry at RENK Group. “Our NDSL-3600 gearboxes will ensure maximum operational reliability in the new ferries while also improving passenger comfort through RENK’s vibration-optimised design.”

The NDSL-3600 units form a central part of the propulsion system, which incorporates advanced green technologies designed for high energy efficiency and low emissions. By reducing fuel consumption and CO₂ output, RENK contributes to the ongoing decarbonisation of global maritime transport. These RoPax ferries are the first in the Mediterranean region specifically designed for methanol operation. Each gearbox will be powered by two methanol dual-fuel engines. Integrated multi-disc clutches enable several operating modes, including highly efficient onboard power generation via an integrated power take-off (PTO) shaft. The NDSL gearbox series is renowned for its durability and performance in demanding marine environments, offering ship operators reliability, noise reduction and improved sustainability.
