Rheinmetall and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (PGZ) have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate strategically in the development and production of support vehicles for the Polish Armed Forces. The agreement paves the way for the establishment of a joint venture that will serve as a European hub for the manufacture of recovery vehicles, armored engineering vehicles with mine-clearing capabilities, and armored bridge-laying systems.

Rheinmetall, one of the world’s leading suppliers of tracked and wheeled armored vehicles and the original equipment manufacturer of the Keiler NG mine-clearing vehicle, brings extensive expertise in vehicle design, production and maintenance. The company already has a strong presence in Poland through its subsidiary Rheinmetall Polska Sp. z o.o.

PGZ, Poland’s state-owned defense holding group, unites major Polish defense companies under one umbrella and plays a key role in the modernization of Poland’s armed forces.

The agreement is designed to strengthen European defense resilience by increasing production capacity and supply chain redundancy. “This memorandum of understanding symbolizes our mutual understanding, shared goals and intent to work closely together,” said Dr. Björn Bernhard, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems Europe. “By signing the MoU, we are not only expanding Poland’s production capabilities for heavy vehicles but also contributing to the creation of a pan-European defense potential, new multinational partnerships and resilient supply chains. This is another step toward making Europe safer and stronger.”

Adam Leszkiewicz, CEO of PGZ, emphasized the strategic dimension of the partnership: “As we build PGZ into a global brand, diversifying our international partnerships is essential — and Rheinmetall is a proven and trusted European partner. This agreement opens the way to expanding our cooperation and developing joint solutions for international markets. It is also significant for our companies in Poznań, Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne and H. Cegielski, creating new business opportunities and demonstrating product diversification within the PGZ Group.”

The planned joint venture reflects the deepening defense cooperation between Poland and its European partners, reinforcing Poland’s role as a key contributor to NATO’s collective security framework.
