Rolls-Royce Power Systems has launched production of the mtu Series 2000 G06 diesel engine at its expanded MTU Yuchai Power joint venture in Suzhou, China. Designed for mission-critical power generation, the locally built engines meet the same manufacturing standards as their German-produced counterparts and will serve both domestic and overseas markets.

The mtu Series 2000 G06 marks a key milestone in Rolls-Royce’s localisation strategy for China. Produced at MTU Yuchai Power (MYP)—a joint venture established in 2014 between Rolls-Royce and Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co. Ltd—the engine is intended for backup and prime power in applications such as data centres, industrial parks, power stations, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

According to Rolls-Royce, the G06 model offers high power density, strong fuel efficiency, and reliability suited to mission-critical environments. Local production is expected to improve service responsiveness, supported by an after-sales team based in China, and reduce total cost of ownership for customers.

The official launch included the signing of agreements with over ten power generation OEMs, covering uses ranging from mobile power trucks and rental fleets to EPC projects. This aligns with Rolls-Royce’s “Technology Synchronization, Service Homology” approach—ensuring the same technical specifications and service standards as engines produced in Germany.

Since the joint venture’s first production in 2018 of the mtu Series 4000 at its Yulin site, MYP has built more than 3,000 mtu engines. Following its 2024 expansion, the facility now manufactures both the Series 4000 S83 for oil and gas and power generation sectors and the new Series 2000 G06.

Beyond China, the G06 will also support projects in neighbouring regions, expanding the company’s footprint in Asia’s power generation market.
