The chain as an anti-drone projectile: This article demonstrates that the bola, which has proven its worth in hunting for centuries, also has potential as a purely mechanical means of defending against drones. For low altitudes, therefore, even a catapult loaded with a thin chain can serve as an effective defence.

In earlier studies [1,2], the Bolo principle was also considered as a ‘wrapping method’ for a purely mechanical drone defence system and was verified in initial field studies and computer simulations as the last line of defence. The ever-tighter and, due to the conservation of angular momentum, ever-faster entanglement of the target by an approaching chain is, as it were, a rotating whip! In this paper, the computer-simulated finale of the chain attack on the drone will be demonstrated and the chain will be evaluated comparatively as an anti-drone projectile. As before, all this is presented in self-explanatory illustrations and in the form of computer animations:
