Traditional space applications have long required space-qualified components to ensure the success of missions. With over 60 years of experience in the space sector, Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) continuously expands its offering and now introduces the production-grade, radiation-hardened 15W DC/DC power converter SA15-28 along with the matching EMI filter SF100-28, both of which meet the requirements of MIL-STD-461 specification. The space-grade power converter is a standard, non-hybrid isolated DC/DC converter with an accompanying electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter, designed to operate in harsh environments with a 28V satellite bus power supply.

The SA15-28 is available with three 5V outputs, ideal for use with Point-of-Load (PoL) converters and Low-Dropout (LDO) linear regulators to power FPGAs and microprocessors (MPUs). The compact SA15-28 weighs 60 g and has a volume of approximately 1.68 in3, optimizing the size, weight, and power consumption (SWaP) of the component. Microchip can customize the output voltage combinations upon request.

With the new SA15-28 power converter and SF100-28 EMI filter from our space portfolio, customers can adapt and scale their power supply systems to the specifications of their application. The non-hybrid or discrete design is specifically geared towards flexibility and quick market launch.

High reliability

The SF100-28 EMI filter can be used with various power converters with a total power of up to 100 W. For added flexibility in space applications, the SA15-28 and SF100-28 are compatible with Microchip's existing SA50 series power converters and the SF200 filter.

High reliability and performance are essential for power supplies in harsh environments. The SA15-28 DC/DC power converter is designed to operate in a wide temperature range of -55 (-131 °F) to +125 °C (+257 °F) and offers radiation resistance up to 100 krad TID.
