In the face of growing geopolitical and economic uncertainties, 61 prominent companies – including aerospace propulsion specialist MTU Aero Engines – have united under the initiative "Made for Germany" to reaffirm their long-term commitment to Germany as a high-tech business hub.

Together, the initiative’s members have pledged a total of €631 billion in investments by 2028, spanning capital expenditures, R&D spending, and commitments from international investors. A significant share of these funds—well into the three-digit billion euro range—will be directed toward new investments, making this one of the most comprehensive industrial commitments in recent German history.

"Made for Germany" complements the German government’s recent reform and investment agenda and seeks to establish a new kind of dialogue between industry and policymakers. The initiative addresses key structural issues such as digitalisation, innovation, sustainability, infrastructure development, and the shortage of skilled labour.

MTU expands domestic footprint in line with industrial transformation

MTU Aero Engines CEO Lars Wagner highlighted the company's dual commitment to global growth and its home base in Germany:

As MTU, we continue to invest in our future around the globe. At the same time, Germany remains our anchor point. Our expansion in Hannover and Ludwigsfelde reflects growing maintenance demand, while in Munich we are building a new development centre, a geothermal plant and modern production facilities. We want to take joint responsibility for Germany’s economic strength.

MTU’s involvement in the initiative also aligns with its broader strategy to expand capacities in both civil and military propulsion technologies. The company has become a key pillar in Europe’s defence readiness and in securing strategic aerospace capabilities. Through joint ventures, research alliances and government programmes, MTU plays a central role in securing European sovereignty in critical aerospace technologies.

A message to the global investment community

The "Made for Germany" initiative also aims to rebuild investor confidence following significant capital outflows in recent years. By demonstrating a unified commitment to innovation and industrial strength, the signatories hope to send a clear signal: Germany remains an attractive and stable destination for long-term investment, even amid international competition.

In addition to large corporations, the initiative advocates for improved capital access for startups and SMEs, enabling them to scale faster and contribute to the country’s innovation ecosystem.
