Advances Indigenous Missile Program Turkish Drone Launches New KEMANKEŞ 1 Missile in Live-Fire Trial

Baykar has conducted new test firings of the KEMANKEŞ 1, an AI-assisted mini cruise missile developed in Türkiye. The trials were carried out using a Bayraktar AKINCI unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV).

The test campaign for Baykar’s indigenously developed KEMANKEŞ 1 AI-powered mini cruise missile is progressing successfully. During the latest exercise, the UCAV took off from test centers in Çorlu and Keşan (Turkey) carrying two KEMANKEŞ 1 missiles. The missiles were launched against a designated ground target and struck successfully. The engagement was monitored by another UCAV, the Bayraktar TB2.

KEMANKEŞ 1 was first displayed at TEKNOFEST 2023 in Istanbul. The missile is designed for use against strategic targets and is intended for integration with several Baykar platforms, including the Bayraktar AKINCI, Bayraktar TB2, and the naval-capable Bayraktar TB3.

 According to technical specifications released by the company, KEMANKEŞ 1 can remain airborne for more than 20 minutes, has a range of over 100 kilometers, and uses an electro-optical guidance system with AI support. It is equipped with an autopilot system and electronic counter-countermeasure capabilities intended to reduce vulnerability to jamming.Baykar reports that its UAV systems are currently exported to dozens of countries.

Localization rate of 93 percent and export agreements

Since 1986, Baykar has focused on local production in support of Turkey’s defense and aviation sector. The company says it has financed its own research and development activities and reports a localization rate of 93 percent. According to its website, Baykar ranks among the leading global developers of unmanned aerial vehicles and has export agreements with 36 countries: 35 for the Bayraktar TB2 UCAV and 15 for the Bayraktar AKINCI UCAV.
