At the technology conglomerate Diehl, its defence offerings are significantly boosting its bottom line. Sales of the internationally sought-after Iris-T air defence system are reportedly strong, driving up Diehl’s profit margin. Net income has risen from 343.5 million in the previous year to 492.3 million euros in 2025. Revenue climbed by 15 percent over the same period (to 5.4 billion), with 2.3 billion coming from defence operations alone. Revenue of six billion euros is expected for the current year. Incidentally, Diehl is currently equipping the armed forces of 21 nations with the Iris-T SLM, including Germany and Ukraine.

Iris-T Production Has Increased Twentyfold in Four Years

According to Helmut Rauch, Diehl’s executive board member for defence, there are currently ten units of the system in use in Ukraine alone. Deliveries to the Ukrainian army are also continuing. According to Rauch, production capacity has increased by a factor of 20 since 2022. He did not specify exact numbers. Diehl is also currently developing a system called Iris-T SLX, which has a longer range and can fly at higher altitudes. Although it is not intended to intercept ballistic missiles, it is designed to take over at least some of the tasks performed by the U.S. Patriot defence system. A hypersonic defence system is also expected to be ready for production by 2031. Last year, Diehl’s defence division increased its workforce by more than 800 to over 5,400 employees.
