Rheinmetall is expanding its technology and production base in Norway. On 1 October 2026, its subsidiary Rheinmetall Nordic AS officially opened its new facility in Skoppum. The site expands the company's capabilities in development, production, system integration, logistics and customer support. It will serve the Norwegian Armed Forces, international customers and other companies within the Rheinmetall Group.

The facility covers an area of 4,579 square metres (approx. 49,288 square feet) and is designed to accommodate 127 employees. At the time of opening, 100 employees will work at the site. There is potential for future expansion to around 5,000 square metres (approx. 53,820 square feet). A 15-year lease has been signed for the facility.

The new premises offer improved working conditions and greater flexibility in production. They facilitate collaboration across departments and programmes and lay the foundation for efficient lifecycle management of systems. Key technology areas include electro-optical systems, fire control systems, situational awareness solutions, weapon accessories and other advanced defence technologies.

Morten Kjørum, CEO of Rheinmetall Nordic AS, said: "The opening of our new facility in Skoppum is a significant investment in the future of Rheinmetall Nordic. It lays the foundation for greater capacity, innovation and value creation while strengthening our ability to support our customers and partners. At the same time, it underscores Rheinmetall's long-term commitment to maintaining and expanding high-tech expertise within the Norwegian defence industry."

With this new facility, Rheinmetall reaffirms its long-term commitment to the Norwegian defence industry. In view of the growing importance of defence readiness, resilient supply chains and independent industrial capabilities, Rheinmetall Nordic is expanding its local capacity. This benefits the Norwegian Armed Forces, allied nations and international partners, to which the company provides technological solutions and long-term technical support. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Norwegian Armed Forces, the government, regional and local authorities, as well as customers, industry partners and representatives of Rheinmetall companies from across Europe.

Rheinmetall Nordic AS has more than 70 years of experience in the Norwegian defence industry. The company specialises in electro-optical systems, fire control systems, situational awareness solutions, weapon accessories and system integration for defence applications. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Rheinmetall AG, Rheinmetall Nordic combines local development and manufacturing expertise with global resources, technologies and industrial capabilities.
