To mark the opening, Helsing hosted a reception featuring keynotes and panel discussions. Gundbert Scherf, co-CEO and co-founder of Helsing, welcomed Pål Jonson, Oleksandr Kamyshin, James Everard, former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe at NATO, as well as Ludger Siemes, in front of an audience of high-ranking representatives from government, armed forces and industry.

With the new location, Helsing is further expanding its commitment to the Swedish defence ecosystem. The most prominent example is the collaboration between Helsing and Saab as part of a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for air combat. In this context, Helsing’s AI agent for air combat, Centaur, has been successfully integrated into a Saab JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jet.

In a simulated “Beyond Visual Range” (BVR) air combat scenario, meaning beyond direct line of sight, Centaur executed complex manoeuvres over the Baltic Sea—the first publicly known case in which an AI system has piloted a fully operational fighter aircraft. Also last year, Helsing and Saab signed a contract to equip the Eurofighter Typhoon with Helsing’s AI-based electronic warfare software Cirra, with a volume amounting to a three-digit million sum.

The new Stockholm location will serve as an operational centre for Helsing’s activities in the Nordic countries, particularly for AI software development, defence partnerships and the establishment of sovereign defence capabilities for Sweden and the wider Baltic region. This is intended to strengthen Sweden’s ability for independent defence and ensure that advanced defence technology is rapidly available—an increasingly important requirement given the security situation in Northern Europe, the Baltic region and the Arctic.

Gundbert Scherf, co-CEO and co-founder of Helsing, says: “Sweden is a cornerstone of European security, and for Helsing it is a new ‘home market’. Our work on integrating the Centaur AI agent into the Gripen fighter jet has shown that combining Sweden’s industrial excellence with our technology creates an unparalleled defence advantage.

Sweden has understood it—the country has a unique concept of total defence and, together with the other Baltic and Nordic states of the NB-8 forum, is vigorously advancing defence cooperation. We are not simply opening an office; we are embedding ourselves more deeply in a first-class tech ecosystem to ensure that the Swedish armed forces not only keep pace with the future of conflict, but define it.”

Ludger Siemes, German ambassador to Sweden, says: “Helsing’s new Stockholm office is a sign of the strength of German-Swedish defence cooperation—a historic partnership rooted in shared interests and a common commitment to European security. With a strong track record in Sweden and close ties to Swedish industry, Helsing is building sustainable capabilities together with Swedish partners. This is how European defence innovation works: cooperative, sovereign and forward-looking.”
