Modern armed forces rely on dependable technology—whether on land, at sea, or in the air. Mission readiness of wheeled and tracked vehicles, helicopters, naval vessels, and submarines depends on proper maintenance with the right equipment. Hytorc provides not only mobile, hand-operated bolting systems tailored to military requirements, but also the expertise to ensure optimal joint integrity: the Hytorc Defense Solutions.

A proven example of this capability is the 'GTK Boxer' armored transport vehicle. In German 'Bundeswehr' service since 2011, it has been supported from the outset by a Hytorc-designed special tool kit for field and depot-level maintenance (Material Readiness Levels II and III). Developed in close cooperation with manufacturer KMW (now part of KNDS since 2016), the hydraulic, hand-operated system enables secure tightening of all fasteners on the 'Boxer'—nearly 1,000 in total—under any field conditions and in full compliance with specified parameters. Operational experience, including deployments in Afghanistan, has validated its reliability.

Even safety-critical joints in the highest risk category can be tightened with process reliability, user-friendly handling, and simultaneous documentation—anywhere in the field. With this system, we have already helped prevent a major recall.

Patrick Junkers, Managing Director of Hytorc Barbarino & Kilp

Versatility Across Platforms

The versatility of the hydraulic Boxer tool kit allows its deployment well beyond a single platform. “It is in fact a cross-platform tool kit designed for all high- and medium-risk bolted joints on German 'Bundeswehr' wheeled and tracked vehicles,” explains Junkers. This assessment has been confirmed through extensive trials conducted by the Army Technical School and the Army Technical College in Aachen (Germany) .

Field-Proven, Mobile, and Comprehensive

The kit’s core components include the rugged Eco2Touch hydraulic pump and two MXT-series hydraulic torque wrenches, complemented by internal and external hex sockets, reaction arms, and supports—28 parts in total. Designed for the 'Boxer’s' full range of bolted joints, primarily DIN 912 hex socket screws from M14 to M27, it supports torque, torque/angle, and yield-controlled tightening methods. Listed under NATO stock number 5180-12-381-8687 (manufacturer code C7316), the system is in service at both unit-level maintenance (MRL II) and depot/contractor overhauls (MRL III).

Proven on Multiple Platforms: 'Dingo', 'Büffel', 'Eagle IV'

The Hytorc tool kit has demonstrated its utility well beyond the 'Boxer'. It has been successfully deployed on the 'Büffel' armored recovery vehicle, the 'Dingo' protected mobility vehicle, and the 'Eagle IV' command and utility vehicle. In addition, Hytorc’s broader portfolio supports applications in both maintenance and production—ranging from track tensioning and turret installation on the 'Leopard' main battle tank to bolting operations on MAN military trucks.

Sustainability and Safety Benefits

“From a sustainability perspective and given the 'Bundeswehr’s' growing operational challenges, the ability to repurpose proven tool systems delivers significant advantages,” emphasizes Junkers. “It ensures consistent joint quality while also enhancing occupational safety—mechanics benefit greatly from working with familiar, field-tested equipment.” According to Hytorc all tools within the Defense Solutions portfolio meet established industrial standards and are engineered for practical application in demanding military environments.
