Modern defence platforms increasingly gain new capability the way your phone does: through software updates rather than hardware upgrades. Percepio CEO Andreas Lifvendahl asks the obvious follow-up question: if capability is delivered continuously, why are so many software assurance practices still centered on one-time pre-deployment verification?
Here's a thought experiment: how many of the aircraft, vehicles, and weapons systems fielded today are running software that didn't exist when the platform was originally certified? For a growing number of programs, the answer is: a significant proportion of the software has evolved since initial deployment.
