Daimler Truck AG, Lambert Defence, and Soframe have now signed a Memorandum of Understanding, as reported. This involves over 1,000 all-wheel-drive trucks, with the Zentros and Unimog models being discussed. Daimler Truck aims to achieve eligibility for such tenders from Belgium. If the contract is awarded, the vehicles will serve military logistics that the Belgian Ministry of Defence intends to modernize as part of the Tactical Logistic Trucks Program (TLTP). The vehicles are therefore to be strictly designed according to the requirements of the Belgian armed forces. Daimler Truck is, of course, responsible for the truck platform. Soframe is handling the production of protected driver cabins, and Lambert Defence is responsible for integrating the vehicles in Belgium.

Belgium is concerned with more than just upgrading

The majority of the industrial value creation is, however, to be achieved in Belgium throughout the entire project duration. Vehicle integration, as well as potentially local manufacturing and assembly of essential vehicle components—including the protected Soframe cabins, chassis, and bodies—plus service, support, and maintenance services, are therefore planned to be carried out in Belgium. This approach aims to not only elevate Belgium's national defence to a modern level but also secure jobs and build expertise. In the next step, the partners aim to analyze the program requirements in detail, technically define the joint systems, and prepare a coordinated proposal for the upcoming procurement process.
