OHB and Siemens have entered into a strategic development partnership for the exchange of selected industrial data. The collaboration will accelerate the development of AI solutions specifically tailored to the needs of the European space industry and industrialised satellite production. This is expected to significantly shorten development cycles for satellites and space systems.

This is particularly relevant for the European space sector, which is currently undergoing significant transformation. Growing geopolitical tensions and the resulting demand for data require the production of entirely new numbers of satellites, while also achieving greater cost efficiency.

“For OHB, one of the core applications of industrial AI is the acceleration of development cycles, for example through the automatic creation and optimisation of satellite designs,” says Kristina Wagner, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Digital Officer at OHB. “Satellites are becoming increasingly complex, but at the same time, there is an expectation that production will speed up. The years-long development processes typical of the space industry are coming under increasing pressure—not only from international competition, but also from the urgency of customers’ data needs.”

Close partnership with Siemens as the key

The data partnership is a key component of the collaboration between OHB and Siemens. It aims to extend the use of AI technologies beyond pilot projects into industrial operations, thereby making development and production processes more efficient.

At the same time, the partnership supports the development of an Industrial Foundation Model (IFM) that is specifically tailored to industrial requirements and enables the use of complex technical data across different processes.
