Renk Group AG, a leading provider of military drivetrain solutions, today announced the launch of its new ESM 280 transmission. With this development, Renk is entering the market for armoured wheeled vehicles. The new transmission will be officially presented at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris.

“With the ESM 280, we are bringing decades of experience from tracked vehicle applications into the armoured wheeled vehicle market,” said Arnaud de Péchy. “Unlike modified civilian transmissions, the ESM 280 was specifically developed for military operations and delivers consistent performance under extreme loads, superior manoeuvrability, and long term independence from civilian technology cycles.”

The ESM 280 was developed for medium and heavy military platforms with an output of up to 620 kW and transfers technology from main battle tanks to wheeled vehicles. At its core is a range pack derived from the proven ESM 350, ensuring high performance, durability, and operational reliability in demanding mission environments.

The system was designed from the ground up for military use and enables continuous operation under extreme conditions, sustained tractive force, and rapid manoeuvrability under load. At the same time, its compact design allows seamless integration into existing platforms without structural modifications.

The ESM 280 is a solution specifically developed for military use with a service life of up to 40 years and ensures long term maintainability and independence from civilian technology cycles. This provides maximum flexibility for international programmes.

Visitors to Eurosatory 2026 will have the opportunity to examine a highly detailed 3D printed model of the ESM 280 at the Renk stand.
