As defence companies expand their capabilities, they are entering a talent race with other industries that have been competing for engineers, software specialists, and electronics experts for years. Many of the skills that the defence sector urgently needs already exist in the labour market, but outside the sector. This changes the nature of the talent challenge. Defence companies not only need to find qualified specialists. They also need to identify transferable expertise in other industries and convince professionals that a move into defence is a credible career option.
