American Rheinmetall, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, has been awarded a contract to support the U.S. Marine Corps through the manufacture and delivery of Mission Master SP autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (A-UGVs), associated Marine Kits and additional equipment. The procurement is being conducted through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), with ADS Inc. as the prime contractor in support of the U.S. Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL), and has a contract value of USD 7.28 million.

The contract includes the delivery of 12 Mission Master SP A-UGVs and five amphibious Marine Kits. This represents the most advanced configuration of the Mission Master family developed by Rheinmetall to date. The vehicles will be used for continuous operational evaluation, testing and capability development as the Marine Corps expands its autonomous logistics and expeditionary mobility capabilities.

These enhancements are based on extensive user feedback, developmental testing, live-fire engagements and operational trials.

The procurement package includes comprehensive programme management, technical support, logistics coordination, technical documentation, operator training and acceptance testing. American Rheinmetall in the United States is leading the programme, supported by the engineering expertise and production capabilities of Rheinmetall Canada as the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and technology partner.

Supporting strategic U.S. autonomy initiatives

The programme fits seamlessly into American Rheinmetall’s strategy of expanding U.S.-based autonomous ground vehicle capabilities and advancing long-term technology transfer. It also supports the ongoing establishment of Rheinmetall’s site in Maine as the future U.S. Advanced Land Autonomy Center of Excellence (ALACOE). This centre of excellence will focus on PATH integration, production, maintenance and lifecycle support. The contract represents an important step towards future U.S. manufacturing and long-term local maintenance activities.

Strengthening Marine Corps readiness and modernisation

The Mission Master SP systems make a significant contribution to the Marine Corps’ efforts to strengthen autonomous logistics, enable distributed operations and increase operational reach while reducing risk to personnel. The vehicles are specifically designed for forward-looking concepts such as Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) and multi-domain operations.
