The Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) and the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies (SJAC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster deeper defence cooperation between the industries represented by the two organisations.

The MoU was signed by ASD Secretary General Camille Grand and SJAC Senior Managing Director Takumi Fujino at a joint reception during the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, in the presence of ASD President and Saab CEO Micael Johansson and SJAC Chairman and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries CEO Seiji Izumisawa.

The MoU builds on the Letter of Intent signed in April 2026 during the first EU-Japan Defence Industry Dialogue in Brussels, held under the auspices of the European Commission and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The Dialogue originates from the EU-Japan Security and Defence Partnership (November 2024) and the EU-Japan Competitive Alliance (July 2025).

Camille Grand, ASD Secretary General, said:

“Europe and Japan are like-minded partners facing shared challenges. Today's MoU marks an important step in further strengthening the ties between our industries, and we look forward to developing this cooperation in the years ahead.”
