HD Advanced Technologies (HDAT), a subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, and the American-Israeli company Ondas Autonomous Systems (OAS), a subsidiary of US-based Ondas, are joining forces to manufacture counter-drone systems in Germany.

Heidelberger already runs a production plant in Brandenburg an der Havel near Berlin. In future, the site, which currently employs more than 380 people, will operate under the name Onberg Autonomous Systems to prduce the newly developed Iron Drone System. The systems are designed to meet the most demanding requirements of national security, border protection, and military, civil and industrial applications, the company said at the opening of the plant attended by Brandenburg Minister-President Dietmar Woidke. According to the company, they will initially be marketed in Germany and Ukraine.

In doing so, the partners are implementing the memorandum of understanding signed in December 2025 in the presence of German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche to strengthen Europe’s security architecture. In the long term, Onberg aims to close the existing market gap in the protection of critical infrastructure in Europe by acting as a one-stop shop for autonomous counter-drone systems. The foundation is provided by OAS’s battle-tested systems, which will gradually be enhanced with additional autonomous technologies as well as sensor and communication technologies. Heidelberg subsidiary HDAT is contributing the necessary expertise in the industrialisation of processes and scalability, enabling the company to serve markets across the EU in future.
