Maximator GmbH Opens New Cleanroom in Nordhausen (Germany).

With the commissioning of the new cleanroom, Maximator GmbH is strengthening its manufacturing expertise for high-purity high-pressure components and systems. In the controlled environment, the company produces its gas compressor systems for customer projects in the semiconductor industry. In doing so, the technology specialist from Nordhausen minimises particle-related contamination risks and establishes the basis for reproducible manufacturing processes and optimised process strategies. The cleanroom has been designed so that it can also be used in future for the assembly and acceptance testing of additional high-pressure assemblies and components, such as pumps or valves.
“With the new cleanroom, we are expanding our production facilities with a state-of-the-art infrastructure that enables us to consistently meet demanding customer requirements at a high quality level – with reliable process security and guaranteed low particle levels,” explains Dr Alexander Müller, Managing Director of Maximator GmbH.

As defence budgets rise and EU programmes expand, civil technology providers are becoming vital contributors to Europe’s strategic autonomy. The event will act as a neutral platform for dialogue between technology suppliers, integrators, and decision-makers shaping the next generation of European defence capabilities and aims to open doors between civil industry and defence procurement, providing practical insights.
The new cleanroom comprises a production area of approximately 60 square metres, as well as technical and access areas, and is divided into unclean, clean and ultra-clean zones. A pressure cascade concept of approximately 30 pascals (Pa), monitored manually, ensures that this structure functions effectively during operation. Pressure differentials are created between the areas so that air flows from the cleaner to the less clean zones, preventing particles from entering critical areas. Access is provided via personnel and material airlocks acting as controlled interfaces. These serve as buffers between the cleanliness levels, enabling regulated procedures such as personnel changes or material loading and preventing direct air and particle exchange between unclean and ultra-clean areas when doors are opened. This ensures stable and reproducible conditions for sensitive process steps. The cleanroom meets the requirements of ISO Class 6 (according to ISO 14644-1).
Implementation with the support of item Industrietechnik GmbH
The project was planned and realised in cooperation with item Industrietechnik GmbH. The industrial technology specialist supported Maximator GmbH in the planning and construction of the cleanroom structure, the provision of materials and technical assistance during implementation.

With concrete recommendations regarding requirements and implementation, we were able to set the right course at an early stage and realise the cleanroom structure in a targeted manner,” emphasises Managing Director Müller.

With the new cleanroom, Maximator GmbH is consistently continuing the development of its site. The infrastructure was created within approximately four months of construction, with an investment of around €250,000. This establishes the basis for further growth in forward-looking industries such as semiconductor technology, medical technology, food technology, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, as well as aerospace engineering.
“With the ISO 6 cleanroom, Maximator is strengthening its position in numerous high-tech industries – far beyond its existing sectors. Wherever low particle levels, process security and functional reliability are decisive, an ISO 6-capable assembly process enables the efficient implementation of proven quality with reduced process effort and lower costs,” emphasises project manager Andor Thelen.
