Quantum Systems GmbH and Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at AFCEA. The strategic cooperation aims to integrate electronic warfare (EW) capabilities, including signal intelligence (SIGINT) solutions for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and electronic protection systems (jamming) for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). In doing so, both companies are expanding the operational capabilities of unmanned signal intelligence and strengthening force protection through autonomous vehicle systems.

New capabilities for unmanned aerial reconnaissance

The collaboration focuses on integrating SIGINT and drone defence solutions from Rohde & Schwarz into Quantum Systems’ unmanned aerial systems. This will enable armed forces to conduct flexible aerial reconnaissance of electromagnetic emissions whilst simultaneously leveraging the advantages of unmanned systems. Until now, such capabilities have mainly been provided by manned platforms or large strategic systems such as aircraft. This collaboration is the first to take the approach of integrating SIGINT capabilities into a German-made tactical unmanned system.

Protecting ground troops with unmanned vehicle systems

In addition, jamming solutions from Rohde & Schwarz are to be integrated into Quantum Systems’ unmanned ground vehicles. The aim is to protect ground troops using unmanned systems in the field of electronic warfare. The collaboration draws on experience gained from Ukraine’s defence efforts. Transferring these capabilities to unmanned systems can reduce risks to own forces whilst increasing operational flexibility.

Strategic collaboration between German companies

Through this partnership, both companies aim to integrate existing intelligence and protection technologies into unmanned systems more quickly, thereby enabling robust defence solutions to be deployed. The collaboration strengthens German technological expertise and sovereign capabilities in the field of unmanned air and ground systems, as well as electronic reconnaissance.

“The requirements of modern armed forces are changing at a rapid pace. What is crucial today is the ability to quickly adapt proven technologies to new platforms and ensure they are immediately operational. Together with Rohde & Schwarz, we are creating a German solution for unmanned aerial signals intelligence and ground-based electronic protection systems, thereby specifically expanding capabilities on the battlefield,” says Martin Karkour, Chief Revenue Officer at Quantum Systems.

“This MoU represents an important milestone in our mission to deliver innovative EW solutions,” says Alexander Philipp, Managing Director, Rohde & Schwarz Vertriebs-GmbH. “By partnering with Quantum Systems, we are combining complementary strengths to create powerful, future-ready capabilities for our customers.”
