Rohde & Schwarz announces the debut of THORIS (Tactical High-Energy Opponent Response & Interception System), a dedicated counter‑UAS (uncrewed aerial system) solution designed for the protection from hostile drones with rapid and precise engagement.

Built on a layered multisensor suite, THORIS blends RF detection for radio‑controlled drones with radar and EO/IR sensors that confirm, track and identify targets even when RF emissions are weak or absent. All detection, tracking and effectors are coordinated within a unified command‑and‑control (C2) environment that provides high‑resolution situational awareness, maintains human oversight, and ensures compliance with rules of engagement and legal frameworks. Rohde & Schwarz jamming solutions are able to disrupt radio-controlled hostile drones where operationally and legally permitted.

When jamming is ineffective or prohibited, the system transitions to a directed‑energy response: THORIS LCS (Laser Combat System), a dedicated laser‑based counter‑UAS solution, will employ a TRUMPF‑engineered laser that delivers controllable high‑power pulses to disable a UAS’ control electronics or propulsion without kinetic impact.

This latest evolution of sovereign counter‑UAS capabilities is built on a unique partnership that merges Rohde & Schwarz’ leadership in sensors, electromagnetic warfare and systems integration with TRUMPF’s industrial high‑energy laser expertise.

At ILA, a future look at THORIS LCS shows it mounted on a mobile ground vehicle that is able to detect a series of surrogate UAS, locking on within milliseconds and applying precise laser pulses that render each drone inoperable. The system’s modular architecture allows seamless integration into both mobile and fixed deployments, delivering scalable protection for convoys on the move, forward forces and critical infrastructure while remaining effector and platform agnostic by design. The modularity and scalability of the solution makes it a future-proof investment and effectively addresses the CUAS capability gap.

THORIS LCS will be on display at the Rohde & Schwarz booth at ILA (hall 3, stand c20), where attendees can view a full‑scale mock‑up, explore the integrated sensor‑to‑laser workflow and receive detailed briefings from the development team.

The fully integrated THORIS LCS vehicle system is planned for launch at the end of 2028, with demonstrators and staged validation activities available on the path to fielding.
