The municipality of Andøy and Rheinmetall Nordic AS have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to enable the establishment of the “Rheinmetall Integrated Process Facility” (RhIPF) in the Prærien Business Park in Andenes. The proposed facility is intended to serve as a satellite test centre and to make a significant contribution to the growing cluster of space and defence industry activity on Andøya.

The LoI reaffirms the parties’ mutual intention to advance the project‑related processes concerning land lease, land‑use planning and construction. Rheinmetall Nordic will provide the necessary technical specifications and documentation to support planning and permitting procedures, while Andøy municipality commits to facilitating an efficient process and ensuring access to the required infrastructure.

The project remains subject to a final investment decision by Rheinmetall AG. Rheinmetall retains exclusive rights to a designated site on Andøy.

Morten Kjørum, CEO of Rheinmetall Nordic AS, said: “We highly value the constructive cooperation with Andøy municipality and look forward to continuing our close collaboration as we advance this project on Andøya. Both parties will now work towards a final lease agreement, a potential development agreement and the preparation of construction works, subject to approval of the required plans.
