The SOM provides the interfaces, working memory and storage needed to support the RZ/G3E compute engine, which includes four Arm Cortex‑A55 CPU cores and a Cortex‑M33 core. It can drive two Full HD displays and offers developers MIPI‑DSI, dual LVDS and digital RGB display interfaces. HMI features also include H.264 and H.265 video codecs plus a 3D graphics controller. High‑speed connectivity options comprise a PCIe Gen3 interface with two lanes, USB 3.2 and two USB 2.0 ports, and a dual Gigabit Ethernet controller.

Ready‑to‑use hardware to cut development time

For designers who wish to use the RZ/G3E application processor, the RZ/G3E SOM delivers a comprehensive, ready hardware implementation in an 82 mm × 50 mm form factor compatible with an MXM3 connector. Employing the SOM significantly reduces system development time and accelerates OEM time to market.

Further design time savings are available through the RZ/G3E SOM development kit, which enables rapid prototyping and validation of new designs based on the RZ/G3E. OEMs can use the dev‑kit carrier board as a reference design, providing a template for the interfaces required on their own carrier boards.

As defence budgets rise and EU programmes expand, civil technology providers are becoming vital contributors to Europe’s strategic autonomy. The event will act as a neutral platform for dialogue between technology suppliers, integrators, and decision-makers shaping the next generation of European defence capabilities and aims to open doors between civil industry and defence procurement, providing practical insights.

Software and OS support

Design support also covers embedded software: the RZ/G3E SOM offers three Linux options — Linux BSP Plus, the Verified Linux Package, or a Software Development Kit — with differing support levels for kernel updates and maintenance via Renesas.

Temperature grades and AI inference options

The SOM is available in versions for commercial (0 °C to 70 °C) or industrial (−40 °C to 85 °C) operating temperature ranges.

For edge AI inference, the RZ/G3E SOM gives developers two options. The RZ/G3E processor includes an integrated Arm Ethos‑U55 NPU core providing 0.5 TOPS of inference performance, suitable for entry‑level AI tasks (vision AI, voice AI and sensor‑data AI). Virtium Embedded Artists also supplies an RZ/G3E SOM variant equipped with a DeepX DX‑M1 AI accelerator, delivering 25 TOPS for more advanced inference workloads.
