With the official opening of the Space Factory at ESA Phi-Lab Austria at Vienna Airport, start-ups and research institutions now have access to a modern environment for developments in space technology and high-tech applications. Busch Austria GmbH is supporting the initiative with a vacuum system that replicates conditions similar to those in space, enabling the development and validation of new products under realistic operating conditions.

The aim of the Space Factory is to make professional infrastructure more accessible to young companies and development projects, thereby promoting the creation of new applications in space and technology development.

“Innovation happens when good ideas meet the right resources. Through our contribution to the Space Factory, we want to give young companies and research institutions access to vacuum technology and provide targeted support for the development of new applications,” says Karl Blümel, Management of Busch Austria GmbH.

The system supplied by Busch Austria consists of a vacuum chamber, a HiPace series turbomolecular vacuum pump, a HiScroll series scroll pump, and measurement and control technology. The combination of these components enables high-vacuum conditions to be created, as required for the development, testing and validation of components intended for use in space.

Components, electronic units, materials and complete assemblies can be tested inside the chamber under realistic operating scenarios. These tests help developers assess how their products behave at an early stage and make development processes more efficient.

Particular emphasis has been placed on ease of use and practical application. Users can place their test items in the chamber, start the evacuation process and have the required conditions generated. This gives young companies in particular access to professional vacuum technology without having to invest in complex infrastructure themselves or develop the necessary specialist expertise.

The system is available as a flexible environment for a wide range of research and development projects and provides an important technical foundation for work at the Space Factory.
