The German Navy’s Seebataillon (naval infantry battalion) is intended to operate in future as a force capable of moving both on land and at sea, conducting operations in coastal waters and in littoral areas ashore. Its own tactical mobility on the water is particularly important in this role. To support this capability, the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) signed a contract with Finnish company Marine Alutech Oy Ab on 12 October 2026 for the procurement of Watercat M18 AMC multi-purpose combat boats.

The contract covers the procurement of 15 boats, including training, documentation and accessories. The boats have an overall length of approximately 20 metres (about 65.6 feet). Their design enables them to achieve high speeds. Their primary operational role is in coastal and littoral environments.

In addition to its crew, each boat can carry naval infantry personnel together with their personal equipment. An integrated bow ramp enables rapid landing and the direct loading and unloading of personnel and equipment on shallow shorelines.

The boats are scheduled for delivery to the Bundeswehr between 2029 and 2031.
