The automotive and industrial supplier Stabilus is now responding to the continuing weakness in sales by expanding its business with the defence industry, dpa has learned.

The Stabilus Group expects sales of military applications to at least triple by 2030, as emphasised. Within five years, the company believes that orders and call-offs with a volume of around 200 million euros are possible, which will only come from military and so-called "dual use" applications - i.e. those that are aimed at both the defence sector and the civilian sector. And currently, Stabilus is already enjoying a significant increase in demand from these sectors, especially in the business with damping systems and options for precise motion control (actuator technology). Recently, Stabilus has also been able to win well-known international manufacturers as customers.

Wide range of applications for Stabilus products

The decision is no coincidence, as Stabilus has been suffering from the sluggish economy and the weakness of the automotive industry for some time. But with a view to the defence sector, the Group now wants to position itself more strongly as a technology partner for energy absorption, vibration isolation and safe motion sequences in complex systems in order to compensate for the deficits. Stabilus has therefore already presented vibration, recoil and motion control technology at the Enforce Tac trade fair in Nuremberg. These could be used in armored vehicles and military utility vehicles, for example, but could also be useful in certain ballistic systems as well as sensor and optical platforms. According to Stabilus, ergonomic seating and access systems are also part of the range of applications.
